Shalom friends,
	What is friendship? How has the definition of friendship developed throughout the years? Are the features of biblical friends similar to the features of Facebook © friends? Try to look at the following ancient quotes in the Hebrew language and see if they apply to your current definition of friendship
וְאָהַבְתָּ לְרֵעֲךָ כָּמוֹךָ. (וַיִּקְרָא י"ט, י"ח) Ve’ahavta lere’axa kamoxa. You shall love your fellow/friend/neighbor as you love yourself (Leviticus 19: 18) אֱמֹר לִי מִי חֲבֵרֶיךָ וְאוֹמֵר לְךָ מִי אַתָּה. Emor li mi xaverexa ve’omar lexa mi ata. Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are. (עַל שְׁלוֹשָׁה דְּבָרִים הָעוֹלָם עוֹמֵד, עַל הַתּוֹרָה וְעַל הָעֲבוֹדָה וְעַל גְּמִילוּת חֲסָדִים. (פִּרְקֵי אָבוֹת Al shlosha dvarim ha’olam omed, al hatora ve’al ha’avoda ve’al gmilut xasadim. The world stands upon three things: On Torah, worship, and loving deeds. (Pirkey Avot) (מַה שֶּׁשָּׂנוּא עָלֶיךָ אַל תַּעֲשֶׂה לַחֲבֵרךָ. (הִלֵּל הַזָּקֵן Ma shesanu alex al ta’ase lexaverxa. Don't do unto others what you wouldn't want done to you. (Old Hillel) (אָדָם מִבְּלִי חֲבֵרִים - כִּשְׂמֹאל בְּלִי יָמִין. (רַבִּי שְׁלֹמֹה אִבְּן גַבִּירוֹל Adam mibli xaverim – kismil bli yamin A man with no friends – like left with no right. (Rabbi Solomon ibn Gabirol)
